Growing Good Men

I know that you grow crops and raise men. Bear with me while I explain.

FARMING- My family has been farming for several generations now. The land is jointly owned by the siblings. The management of the farm is done by one person at a time. Usually it falls to the youngest son. It works somewhat like a cooperative holding.

Income from crops and fruits is a fickle income. Some years it fills up the whole family, other years it is barely enough to sustain the primary manager. Like other low paying jobs, those attached to the farm need a second primary income stream to keep solvent. Farming is a difficult job on the best of days. A lot of the work is manual in nature. Hiring and managing workers needs a supervisor. There is an old saying in the community that certain seasons of farm work require penance like hard work. Timing the penance correctly is as important as doing it in the right manner.

Each crop has different requirements, in terms of timing and soil conditions.

Finally and hopefully a good healthy crop grows out. Even then,there are many many things that can spoil the good crop. Nature can be fickle with draughts and untimely rain. Locusts and insect swarms can devour full crops, rot can finish any crop. There are foraging animals, there is fire.

There are MANY aggressors and few helpers

The reaping season is what decides the success or failure of the crop. If the crop is bountiful, man has succeeded again in the face of challenges. That is the year which negates all the bad years of droughts and flooding. The good crop is enough to justify the extraordinary effort. A crop failure is just a failure
