Recommended Reads

First, I want to talk up a publication. The editors of Middle-Pause have been the most helpful and interactive I’ve worked with on Medium. Marilyn and Debbie gave me kind and supportive comments that improved my writing. If you are a woman “of a certain age,” I’d recommend that you both read and write for this publication. Here’s the piece I wrote for them:

Both of these are deeper than my light urban fantasy reads. While dealing with the devil or with fae are genre-inspired, the novels go beyond mere tropes. Both read more like literary fiction (or magical realism). The language is carefully crafted and the themes deep in both of these.

Love love love this one — if you are an academic and/or Middle-Pause’s target demographic, pick it up. Don’t let the cover put you off, though. It refers to elements of the book, but it doesn’t fit the vibe at all.

The set-up: Addie makes a deal with darkness for freedom and life. What she gets is immortality, but no one can remember her. (Interesting how my subconscious chose to write about my mother’s dementia the same week I was reading this novel).
