Padania

Padania is one of the most established teams in CONIFA, with a long history of organised football dating back many years. Indeed, Padania was a three-time winner of the VIVA World Cup, which served as a predecessor to the CONIFA World Football Cup.

The team has also had a successful run in CONIFA competitions. At the World Football Cup, it has registered a quarter-final place, a fourth place and a third place finish in 2014, 2016 and 2018 respectively.

It is in the European Football Cup, however, where Padania has been dominant, winning the previous two editions in 2015 and 2017.

Padania represents a region of northern Italy which considers itself very distinct from the rest of the country. It tries to stand apart from political debate in the country, instead focusing on providing footballers with the chance to represent the region on the international stage.

The Padania team usually comprises a mix of professional and amateur players. “This is a great opportunity to play on a different stage,” said Padania goalkeeper Riccardo Zarri. “For me, this experience is one of the best thing I could have done soccer-wise, but also as a person.”

The team is currently ranked fourth in the world by CONIFA, making it a decent bet to complete a remarkable treble of European Football Cup victories.
