What the sea teaches you about your career!

As the water started to retract, the sand below my feet started to slip. And soon I realised if I didn’t move, I might fall. Same is life; if we stand some where long enough the sand starts to slip and either you move or you fall.

That day, while watching the sun set on the mediterranean sea, I learnt an important life lesson. To make progress and grow, one has to keep moving, keep learning and keep inventing his way. Its funny how nature sometimes explains things in such simple ways.

Think about it, the vastness of the sea can teach you a thing or two about career and life in general. While everyone loves to bask in the sun in the sea, a strong tide or a storm can suddenly make it very treacherous. Today, I am trying to draw parallels between one’s career with a walk on the beach.

Some people are fortunate enough to live by the sea and some have travelled many a miles to spend a few hours. It doesn’t matter how long your path has been, the sea doesn’t differentiate. It will keep hitting you with waves one after the other. There are new challenges to manoeuvre every second.

Kind of like one’s career. Your journey to reach here might have been a very difficult one, and you might wonder how fortunate are some to start right there. But remember, the journey from here is equally difficult. Your tough times have only hardened you to be better prepared for this.

You decide to take a stroll on the beach, you don’t mind tiptoeing on the water. But then suddenly a wave comes and you need to stop. Let the water flow by and you begin your walk again. Your career may have its ebbs and flows, but you need to take it in your stride. You may have to stop at times, evaluate your next step and then take your next step.

Then as the sun sets and the waves start to wane, and you feel like just standing there and watch the mesmerising beauty. The retracting waves, remind you that you must move. It might be the most beautiful moment of your life, but you must still move because you have places to go to.

Not just the sea or the beaches, but nature asa whole has its own way of teaching us about how to go about our lives. It may be worthwhile for us to sometimes pay attention to it. The next time you are watching the leaves rustle or the waves wash your feet, there is something the nature is trying to teach us.
