My top 10 albums of 2017

My year in music

A tie between two albums I really enjoyed throughout the year, in one hand one of my favorite alternative bands released one great album which contains some of my favorite songs of the year like Deadcrush, and in the other hand we have Vince Staples with a fresh proposal on what he considers to be the future of club music.

A great third chapter of fresh, crude and somewhat hints of old school rap included here. Also tip of the hat for including a more mature, even political message in this new album. I know this got released on 2016 but since it released so late I consider it to be a 2017 album.

Drake never fails to deliver, this time around he brought one of the more chill, vibey albums of the year always mellow and enjoyable under any circumstance. With hints of dancehall and even that cringe worthy patois Drake attempts made a solid “playlist” that always put me in the right mood.

Listening to something fresh and that doesn’t sound like all the rap albums that came out this year is a hard mission, but Brockhampton (yes the self named rap boy band) delivered not one but three solid and fresh albums of rap. The three albums feel very similar and close to each other in a way forming this big album, with artistic proposal not only catchy songs.

Feeling melancholic? Apricot princess from Rex Orange County for me delivered the blues and depressed songs I needed for this year. With simple yet amusing musical arrangements this album for me took me to a zen or even sad place which I found to enjoy very much.

Some people called out this album to be pretentious and annoying, I found it to be deep and very critical of what society stands for and even us as human ourselves. The album addresses narcissism in our social platforms media and more, all with some lovely instrumentals. A great piece of social critique framed in great music.

Jay Z made me buy this album in physical format. This album as some music critics correctly pointed out is the first Shawn Carter album, here we hear SC rap about politics, even Jay Z itself. Yes it’s a classic Jay Z album regarding instrumentation and composition and thats what I found enjoyable about this album, the complete lack of Jay Z use of trap in order to produce a great album.

Kendrick plotting a secret album release, conspiracy theory and more surrounded this album. Yes this is the most “commercial” album of Kendrick but that doesn’t can’t take away the credit of Kendrick producing another great piece of work of his own. A very moody, evolving Kendrick album with powerful political statements, and even religious (more that some people may have liked) DAMN builds up a very powerful album.

4 years later from Pure Heroine, Lorde delivered her sophomore album. From the first listen of it I fell in love with it, something similar to Pure Heroine, the passionate vocals of Ella can make anyone fall in love with it and her way of portraying life itself under these poetic lights make up an amazing album, not only for the year but even for the decade of pop we live in. Lorde is not the stereotypical pop star nor this album is.

Beautiful, if somebody asked me to describe this album that would be the only word I would use to describe it. Tyler puts out a mature, more serious album and knocked the ball out the park, with great collaborations, jazzy arrangements and a consistent but not at all boring album. Tyler talks about love, loneliness, everyday boredom, but all these under his undistinguished veil of saying whatever the fuck he wants to in the way he wants to. For that reason and for mixing love, rap, melancholy and mellow music this is my album of the year. Now tell me whats your November?

Here are some albums that didn’t made the cut but I deeply enjoyed as well:
