Who needs to study sustainability?

The curriculums presented are suitable for people of all levels of immersion, including free short online courses with basic information and expensive deep MBA programs at leading universities in the world.

Study numbers

There are 95 educational programs in total, where:

● 23 free international courses;

● 8 paid international online courses;

● 55 international master’s degree programs;

● 8 international leadership and MBA programs;

● 1 international training program.

The leading countries in terms of the number of educational courses (paid and free) are the UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. These states are the headliners of innovation and movement towards carbon neutrality.

Short-term programs.

The majority of ESG courses are now short online programs. There are both free general education and paid business courses and seminars, for example, courses at Cambridge or Harvard.

For many, studying at Coursera is an attractive option, as it is often free, but to receive a certificate confirming the completion of the program you need to spend about $30.

Master’s degree programs

Master’s programs will cost about €5,000–10,000 for residents of the country, for non-residents it is much more expensive — about €20,000 per year of study.

Leadership and Professional Development Programs

Business education is the most expensive segment of all considered. International leadership programs cost approximately €6,500 for 6 weeks of education.

Practice is everything

Brief conclusions of the study:

1. Due to the pandemic, many long-term programs have the opportunity to study in a hybrid way (several months online + several months offline) — this is a great opportunity to save on living in another country and not leave your family and home for a long time.

2. Undergraduate and graduate programs try to emphasize the provision of practice and the further successful start of the career of graduates, which can be explained by the demand for qualified personnel that exceeds offer.

3. One program is not enough. Often they are aimed at a certain level of training: the wider the topic and coverage of potential listeners, the greater the range of topics that require deeper immersion. In the case of narrow specialized topics, the general context needs to be supplemented with broader touch.

4. There are more courses on Sustainability than on ESG. ESG, in its turn, is a narrower area that requires a serious academic background in economics, law, social sciences or management, and also often involves passing mandatory certifications.

5. Depending on the goals and objectives assigned to the learning process, you can choose a fairly wide palette of programs.

The pattern is as follows: in the international arena, sustainable development penetrates into all areas. Now the education market in ESG is just emerging and gaining momentum. Even in today’s realities, there are trends to preserve and develop the agenda, in particular climate issues, social care and investment attraction, which means it’s time to think about a new round in education and a career track.
