Hello World

Hi!

This blog is a way for me to help figure out and define what my perspectives and standpoints on various controversial topics. Each week, or every two weeks depending on how hefty the topic is, I will choose a different subject to research, analyze, and understand in order to try and define how I view it and which lens that falls under. For example, I would like to cover the prochoice verse prolife debate, because I am prochoice, but I don’t necessarily think that abortion should be completely desensitized, so finding that middle ground of what I view and seeing which category I fall under in terms of liberal, conservative, or a third-party view.

A major reason for me wanting to create this blog is because I was raised in a more conservative household. I often found myself arguing and debating with my parents’ and relatives’ views. But even though I know what I’m fighting against, I have no idea what I’m fighting for. Overall, I want to define what those views are and where I stand.

Some topics I plan to discuss are; healthcare access and current policies such as the affordable care act, who has more or less access, should the system become switched to public or private and why. The opioid epidemic and the different drug epidemics in different parts of the world, like the heroin overdoses in New York and how there was a government facility that handed out clean needles to addict, what’re the implications of that, did it help or hurt, what does it mean for the future of the population, is that American accepting and supporting addiction? Gun laws, what are they, how do they compare to countries around the world, why has there been an increase in public shootings in the last five years, will it ever change, what’s the government’s responsibility verse the public’s responsibilities? Mental illness, what is the stigma around them, how does America handle mental illnesses verse other countries, do these viewpoints explain why more people in America have mental illnesses than most other countries? As a human biology major with an evolution track, while being a very religious person, where do Christian beliefs intersect with evolutionary studies, what do I accept or refute on the issue. The homelessness issues in LA, is the government actually helping or hurting the situation. The education system; should students be forced to sit in silence at such a young age, what effects does that have on an individual’s creativity and learning, what’re potential alternatives, how does education compare around the world?

I want to incorporate other people’s vlogs and opinions who have experiences in the topic of the week. For example, someone close to me got an abortion a year ago and I would like interview them and document their experience and consider their occurrences in my discussion. Overall, I want this blog to be an area for exploration and research. Everyone is more than welcome to comment and share their thoughts and experiences. I also understand that because these topics ignite certain emotions in people, that it may be tempting to argue with the ideas that I bring up. I accept and enjoy such feedback.

Looking forward to it, thanks everyone!
